This policy explains what information Paper Wars (paperwars.online and play.paperwars.online) collects, why, and what you can do about it. Paper Wars is run by DOMAINCORD VENTURES LLC ("we", "us"), who is responsible for your data.
The short version: we collect what we need to run your account and your matches. We don't show ads, use analytics or tracking scripts, or sell your data.
What we collect
When you create an account
- your email address
- your username, which other players can see
- your password, stored only as a one-way hash so we can't read it
- whether you've verified your email, and your choice about turn emails
- the IP address you last signed up or logged in from, to help us deal with abuse
- when your account was created and last changed
If you sign in with Discord
- your Discord user ID and the email address on your Discord account
- the access tokens Discord gives us, used only to link your account
We ask Discord only for your basic profile and email. We don't see your messages, servers or friends.
When you play online
- the matches you create and join, every move made in them, and who won
- your opponent sees your username and your moves, and you see theirs
When you play against the computer
Games against the computer are saved in your own browser's local storage so you can carry on later. They aren't sent to us.
Cookies
We use one cookie: a session cookie that keeps you logged in. It lasts 30 days from your last visit, is shared between paperwars.online and play.paperwars.online so one login works on both, and can't be read by scripts on the page. You don't get this cookie just by reading public pages like the guide.
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
How we use it
- to run your account and let you log in
- to play online matches and save them
- to send emails you need: confirming your email address and resetting your password
- to send "your turn" emails, if you leave them on (you can turn them off on your account page)
- to keep Paper Wars secure and stop cheating and abuse
We rely on running the service you signed up for as our main reason for using your data, and on our legitimate interest in keeping Paper Wars secure.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your data. We use a few services to run Paper Wars, and they handle data only on our behalf:
| Service | What for | What they see |
|---|---|---|
| DigitalOcean | hosting and database backups | everything in our database |
| Cloudflare | sending email, domain names | your email address and our mail |
| Google Fonts | the handwritten font | your IP address and browser |
| Discord | sign-in, only if you choose it | that you signed in to Paper Wars |
We'll also share data if the law requires it, or to protect players or Paper Wars from serious harm.
Some of these services may process data outside your country. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards the service provides for international transfers.
How long we keep it
- Your account and matches: until you delete your account.
- Login sessions: until you log out, or 30 days after your last visit.
- Email verification and password reset links: until they're used or expire.
- Backups: after you delete your account, copies may remain in our database backups for a short time until they're replaced.
- Server error logs: these can include IP addresses and are kept only as long as we need them to fix problems.
Your choices and rights
- See or change your details: your account page lets you change your username, email, password and turn emails, and unlink Discord.
- Delete your account: also on your account page. This permanently deletes your account, your login sessions and the matches you created.
- Anything else: to get a copy of your data, correct something you can't change yourself, or object to how we use it, email legal@domaincord.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights over your data, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Paper Wars isn't meant for children under 13, and they shouldn't create an account. If you think a child has given us their data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change is significant, we'll tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
